Arthritis FAQ's

What are the different types of arthritis?

According to the Arthritis Foundation, there are over 100 different types of arthritis. When it comes to foot and ankle issues, there are only a handful of “major” ones, including:

Osteoarthritis – When people think about arthritis, this is often the condition that comes to mind. It is the “wear and tear” variety that causes stiff, painful joints. It is the most common form, and we have a variety of treatment options that can help with this condition.

Rheumatoid arthritis – This type is an autoimmune disorder in which the body attacks joint lining. There is no known cure for this arthritic condition at present, but symptoms can be managed.

Gout – Often experienced in the joint at the base of the big toe, this condition is caused by a natural byproduct when the body breaks down food products. The right dietary choices can help in managing the condition and preventing painful attacks.
